Release Info :
Jack Radics' career has suffered from a problem common to JA artists - some of his best work is on 7" and 12" records, creating a "buzz" about him unfulfilled by several U.S. releases of lesser material (although I hasten to add there have been a couple of good ones too). When you hear a song you like by an artist, then randomly buy a CD by him that isn't up to the same quality, you're generally put off from that singer for good. "What About Me" circumvents the problem by collecting some of the best of those single releases, all done originally for Grove, like "Heart And Soul", "Keep In Touch", "Merry Go Round" and his moving version of Ken Boothe's "Moving Away". Radics is something of an acquired taste - or, for some, an irritant - as his stylized back-in-the-throat singing style (which could be likened at best to some '30s blues singers and at worst to Al Jolson under water) seperates his listeners into the distinct categories of those who like what he's doing and those who don't - but here at last is a truly representative collection of this energetic and young singer at his best.
